Why narrow-width cuvettes?

Narrow-width cuvettes, due to their slender dimensions, permit reduced sample volumes, such as in microspectrophotometry, where precision measurements of small samples are necessary. Additionally, the reduced optical path length of narrow cuvettes renders them ideal for assays with limited sample volumes, where maximizing light transmission is important for sensitivity considerations. Therefore, narrow cuvettes deliver superior performance in specialized sample applications with the following advantages:

  1. Reduced sample volume: Narrow-width cuvettes require smaller sample volumes compared to standard-width cuvettes. This can be beneficial when working with limited or precious samples, minimizing the amount of samples required for analysis.
  2. Cost-effectiveness: With their smaller dimensions, narrow-width cuvettes can be a cost-effective option, as they require less material for manufacturing. This can be advantageous when working with large sample sets or conducting high-throughput experiments.
  3. Enhanced optical pathlength: The narrower width of these cuvettes allows for longer optical pathlengths, enabling increased sensitivity and improved detection limits. This is particularly useful in applications where the analyte concentration is low or when precise measurements are required.
  4. Compatibility with specific instruments: Some spectrophotometers or analytical instruments may have limitations on the cuvette width they can accommodate. Narrow-width cuvettes are designed to fit these instruments, ensuring seamless compatibility and optimal performance.
  5. Reduced reagent consumption: Narrow-width cuvettes require smaller volumes of reagents, reducing reagent consumption and cost. This is advantageous when working with expensive or limited quantities of reagents.
  6. Space-saving: The smaller size of narrow-width cuvettes allows for efficient use of laboratory space, especially when multiple cuvettes need to be accommodated in a limited area.
  7. Specialized applications: Narrow-width cuvettes are often preferred in specific applications such as microfluidics, capillary electrophoresis, or certain flow-based analyses. These cuvettes enable precise control over sample flow and interaction, facilitating specialized experimental setups.

When selecting narrow-width cuvettes, it is necessary to consider a range of factors to ensure that the choice meets the specific requirements of the application. One of the most important considerations is sample volume. If the sample is only available in small quantities, a narrow-width cuvette might be the best choice. Another key consideration is sensitivity. If the analytical requirements for the application demand high sensitivity, a narrow-width cuvette should be considered.

Compatibility with instruments is also crucial to the selection process. Some spectrophotometers are only compatible with certain types of cuvettes due to specific size constraints. In that case, it could be that narrow-width cuvettes are the only option.

Finally, cost is another important consideration when selecting narrow-width cuvettes. It is important to strike a balance between the practical requirements of the analysis and the cost of the cuvettes, while ensuring you have made the right choice to suit your analytical needs.

UV Quartz Glass Cuvettes

Most of our quartz cuvettes are made from ES quartz material, absorption onset occurs below 190 nm and there are no absorption bands situated between 190 nm and 250 nm. Exceptionally high transmittance across the UVB, UVA, visible spectrum, and near IR. The transmission spectra for our UV quartz cells can be seen below. When working in the IR spectra, especially for wavelengths greater than 2000 nm, we recommend IR Quartz Glass Cuvettes instead, as they offer high transmission for these wavelengths.

IR Quartz Glass Cuvettes

Made from IR quartz material, absorption onset occurs below 260 nm with exceptionally high transmission across UVB, UVA, visible, near IR, and notably short IR. Transmission drops significantly in the mid-IR, and at 4200 nm there is complete absorption.

Why Aireka Scientific Cuvettes and Cells?

Aireka Scientific Co Limited is world-renowned as the producer of premium quartz cuvettes. Over twenty years of experience manufacturing quartz cuvettes ensures that every cuvette is manufactured to the most exacting standards for reproducible results.

  • Spectrophotometry cuvettes - Most spectrophotometry applications in the visible and UV ranges benefit from Aireka Scientific spectrophotometry cuvettes.
